In every apocalypse, there are survivors roaming around the remains of a dead civilization searching for wandering souls to partner with when all hope seems lost.

National Guard

At times players might encounter NPC military personnel, either National Guardsmen or Marines (or equivalent if the map is set outside of the United States). NPC soldiers have their own agendas that can sometimes even work at cross-purposes to player survival. National Guardsmen will man barricades, holding back Zombie hordes, but will fire upon the player if they come to close. Those are their orders, they can't be too careful. Marines, on the other hand, are given the orders to search and destroy... Everything. They will patrol their area, opening fire on anything that moves, acting as an even greater threat than the Zombies, forcing the player to stay out of sight.

  • National Guards are the ones who rescue the survivors, either in objective or in survival maps. They come in with a truck, or a helicopter or even WITH A TANK to rescue Survivors from these Cities or Rural Areas forgotten by god.
  • They never appeared PHYSICALLY in earliest versions. They can only be heard through their radio messages.
  • In the patch 1.08, they appeared PHYSICALLY, but as dead bodies.
  • In the latest patch, which is 1.09, they appeared already as zombies.

Trivia[]

  • Due to the insisting public demand, a female survivor was added (which is Badass) in the 1.08 patch update.
  • Molotov is the only character whose face was modified twice (creation and the remake).
  • Hunter is based on a couple old concept art pieces by sickjoe
  • A combination of google photo and assorted films were inspiration for some of the characters in game.
  • The game was going to have NPCs from the National Guard and civilians and Police, etc., but it never ended up having one because of the Difficulties of Tthe Source Engine and for several other reasons, And one of the Voice Actors who would voice the National Guard was the John St. here the Official response that Happen in the devs discord of why the NG nps never go in the game, and the dev that Answere the question Was Riley Riley: Couldn’t figure out a good way to put them in existing maps without them being annoying And what the NG will do in game, They’d just go On set patrols and basically shoot zombies and warn survivors to stay away or they get shot.
  • The Tsarouchas voice was done by Michael Tsarouchas, and he was the one who did the voices for Hecus from Black Mesa and security guards From Insurgency and for a Half Life 2 mod.
